Behind the Scenes: July ‘25
As summer rolls in and the centre gets stuck into full holiday season mode, July has been about fresh energy, new tech, and keeping safety at the heart of what we do. Here’s what’s been happening behind the scenes at your community-run leisure centre over the last month:
Community Programme -‘the stuff that makes the buzz’
You know we like to keep things moving - and this month, that included some serious splashing thanks to our trial of a new programme called Aqua Zumba, led by our very own Eliska. After a successful six-week run, we’ve decided to keep the pool party going with a new steady Thursday slot. Aqua Zumba in a nutshell? – think water, mix in some rhythm, add some fun and you’ve got the picture!
We also ran another Royal Lifesaving Society National Pool Lifeguard (RLSS, NPLQ) course this month. Regular readers might wonder if our BTS record is on the blink as we do tell you about these courses quite regularly. But worry not: that’s intentional. The number of staff team members going through our NPLQ courses is a marker for the success of the team’s growth and dedication to safety and community enablement. Helping to shape the next wave of water-conscious community members remains a key part of the privilege of running Atlantis.
Centre Life -‘know your building’
This month saw a quiet but meaningful upgrade: BT installed our new fibre broadband connection. While it won’t make your laps in the pool any faster, it will help us stay up to speed behind the scenes. Having a dedicated ‘fibre-to-the-premises’ supply means smoother online bookings and more stable admin systems. All in all, better broadband helps everything flow more easily for you and our team alike.
Down at poolside, safety remains our top priority. This month we carried out a full Lifeguard Zone Visibility Test (LZVT). This is a crucial piece of water safety practice. Using a submerged pool mannequin, the LZVT involves testing every possible blind spot to ensure our lifeguards can detect and respond to any incident within 20 seconds, no matter where it occurs in the pool. It’s a quiet ‘behind the scenes’ process, but it’s still a really important thing we do to keep our pool safe for everyone.
Staff News -‘the team behind the action’
We’ve loved having Euan Sim with us this last month on work experience from Oban High School. Euan has shown real commitment - so much so that he’s extended his placement into the summer and even took part in this month’s National Pool Lifeguard (NPLQ) course. It’s always exciting to see young people engaging with the centre in new ways, and Euan’s enthusiasm and drive have been a brilliant addition to the team – thanks Euan!
