Behind the Scenes: Sept ‘21

With the town still bustling with visitors and the weather continuing to treat us kindly, it’s hard to believe that it’s already mid-September! August was another busy month at Atlantis Leisure as we carefully continued our return from the impact of the pandemic. Read on to find out what’s been happening at the Centre over the past month:

Facilities
We’re really looking forward to Mika Schröder’s return to Atlantis. Mika takes our climbing classes for young people and has been busy adding more qualifications and experience over lockdown. Some of the training Mika undertook was part-funded by LiveArgyll’s Oban Women Coaching and Officiating Grant in collaboration with Adventure Oban. It’ll be great to have Mika back with us later in the year, helping the next generation of climbers get to grips with the Climb Cube!

Cafe
An important part of Atlantis’ return after the pandemic has been the reopening of the Café. Beth and the team work hard on offering a fantastic menu, with delicious home baking and cooking. On top of this, the buzz around the Café is a huge part of creating the ‘Atlantis atmosphere’, with Beth and co being core to that. So, it’s really special to welcome back Vera to the Café team. Vera worked with Beth previously and lights up the Café with an infectious smile and cheery spirit.

Poolside
We suffered a full breakdown of our hyprolyser this month. The hyprolyser is a fancy piece of our pool plant machinery that allows us to create our own chlorine from salt in a very safe and manageable way. Despite the breakdown, our friends at AquaLeisure worked quickly to ensure there was no disruption to the safety or operation of the pool.

Community Fitness Instructors
Our Community Fitness Programme continues to grow and evolve. For us, one of the bonuses of the community approach is getting to know the new faces joining Atlantis as instructors. We’re always keen to hear new ideas from those in our community that would benefit from partnering with us. So, if you’re a qualified instructor of any discipline and have an idea for how you could use Atlantis, get in touch!

Staff
We were delighted that Jonathan Brown accepted an offer to become the new Atlantis Leisure Operations Manager. Jonny has been an integral part of the Atlantis team for the past 10 years, as well as growing up in the town and using Atlantis as a youngster.

There’s continued development elsewhere on the staff team too. Mandy, Susie, Ruth and Emma all successfully passed their RLSS Pool rescue qualification for swimming teachers as part of our ongoing up-skilling of swimming teachers’ teaching and lifeguarding qualifications.
