Behind the Scenes: August ‘21

Schoolbags are packed, PE kits are washed and pencil cases are refilled – a new school term has started and we’re headed for Autumn! In the year of the ‘staycation’, Oban put on a spectacular summer holiday for locals and visitors alike. Read on to find out what that was like up at Atlantis Leisure:

Facilities

With the latest relaxation in Covid-19 restrictions, our Swimming Pools and Soft Play facilities were able to start operating at a higher capacity earlier this month. This also means that there is no longer any need to book in advance, with the return of ‘walk-up’ sessions for both activities. We still recommend that you keep a close eye on the website for all the latest information and guidance before your visit. It’s great to see these areas of the Centre busy again!

Clubs at Atlantis

A clear sign of life getting back towards normality is the return of regular club activity to Atlantis. In particular, Lifesavers are back! – with a brand new club programme and some lovely new committee members, we’re all really pleased to see this Oban institution return after a prolonged hiatus. Lifesavers are joined by a variety of sports-based clubs, with the Canoe Club returning to the pool Basketball, Table Tennis and Badminton clubs returning to the Sports Hall. Clubs are a huge part of what Atlantis do and offer a direct way for us to support our local community. We’ve missed their regular visits each week, so it’s brilliant to be able to welcome them back! Our website provides further detail on all the clubs that use Atlantis for their regular activity – check it out for more information.

With the start of the new term, schools are returning to the Atlantis pool too. Primary and secondary school classes are block-booking their regular slots each week and are adding their buzz and high spirits into daytimes at Atlantis once again!

Poolside
Oban Swim School started back on the 19th of August with over 300 young people set to return to swimming lessons throughout the evening and weekend programmes. A busy pool contributes so much to that ‘Atlantis buzz’ we all know so well, it’s brilliant having our swimmers back!

Staff

It’s new class time for the Atlantis Community Fitness Programme! - we’re delighted to welcome Iain Bruce Low to the team with his new Forrest Yoga programme while Shanice Carson has also added a new class in the form of Shape-Up Bar-Bell, a new weights class. Lots more information about these classes can be found on the Atlantis website – including up to date timings and schedule.

The whole Atlantis Team extend a huge congratulations to our very own Kirsty Summers and partner James Walker who welcomed baby Layla into the world earlier in the month. We’re chuffed to bits for them all and look forward to meeting wee Layla soon!
