What a difference a month makes!  With Spring bringing its gifts of brighter evenings and warmer temperatures, outside of work we’ve been making the most of the wonderful part of the world we live in.  Meanwhile, Spring has had just as big an impact back in the Centre.  Read on to find out what we’ve been up to over the past month at Atlantis:

Centre Life – ‘go green and keep the water clean’

As a result of the increasing cost of utilities, we continue to explore the green energy solutions available to Atlantis.  Atlantis has always been an early adopter of energy efficiency innovations with variations of biomass and air source plant installed at the Centre for several years now.  The challenge for Atlantis is to ensure our plant and equipment keeps up with the continuing evolution and improvements in the industry.  One way we’re tackling that this month is via an in-depth assessment of our building and existing equipment.  We’ll keep you updated on the results and insight that brings.

Elsewhere in the building, we’re getting underway with significant works to our pool plant. The works will improve the efficiency of our pool dosing and filtration equipment.  Maintaining high quality filtration and dosing kit is vital to ensuring our pool water remains at a safe and quality level.

Meanwhile, we’re keeping up with demand in the Gym too.  Following the upgrade to our Technogym equipment range and as a result of listening to the community’s needs regarding what our Gym users require from our equipment, we’re upping the ante and increasing capacity on certain items of kit.  This month, the Dual Pulley will get an increase in weight by 25% which will help our strength and conditioning customers improve the scope and range of their workouts.

This month, Barry Harper was in the Climb Cube to complete the scheduled reset.  Barry has set a range of new routes to suit beginner and advanced climbers alike.  We’re planning on Barry’s visits becoming a more frequent but smaller affair, so that our climbers get more variation between major resets.

Atlantis in the Community – ‘making a difference beyond the Centre’

Back in January we told you about some of the Atlantis team taking part in a Leadership Training course with the Social Enterprise Academy.  This month saw the completion of the programme, with the Atlantis representatives  joining others from Oban Phoenix Cinema, Hope to Oban, Healthy Options and Mallaig Pool and Leisure Centre in their final group session.  The Social Enterprise Academy has long been a supporter of Atlantis – it’s great to find more opportunities to work together and learn from their wisdom and expertise.

Staff News – ‘the team behind the action’

We continue in our commitment to maintain and advance staff training where possible.  This month that meant another 6 members of the staff team passed their pool lifeguard qualification.  Congratulations also go to Erin O’Rourke who passed her Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification this month.  Honouring our training commitment to all staff members is an important way that we serve the community.  In particular, it offers a way for school-leavers who might not want to go on to further education to still find training opportunities close to home.

Following a successful recruitment last month, we’re delighted to welcome two new duty managers to the team! Eddy Edwards and Scott Anstruther both bring a wealth of experience and skills to the Atlantis staff roster – it’s great to have them with us!

Finally, we received the wonderful news that a baby boy was safely delivered to Kevin and Claire Keen earlier this month – congratulations to the new wee family!
