Encouraging all to Play Sport

PlaySport is supported by an Argyll and Bute Leisure development Grant.

Play Sport

The Play Sport working group formed in February 2003 consists of Neil Matheson (Director & Chairperson), Rosemary Young (Director), David Mitchell (Director & Education), Pauline Jespersen (Health), Peter MacMillan (Team Leader), Nick Wesley (Centre Manager) and Neil Innes (PlaySport Manager).

The group, made up of enthusiastic, and in some cases voluntary individuals, has been set up to drive initiatives in sports development at the grass roots level, drawing upon the expertise of the group, and ideas and suggestions from other organisations including: schools, health, local authority, sports council, and the sports clubs.

Initiatives will be designed to have an immediate impact on sport in the area, and will be aimed at underdeveloped sports as well as taking other sports to the next level.

The PlaySport initiative has produced huge benefits in the local area since the beginning of its three year funding, so much so, that additional funding has been made available to this programme for another two years. The continued work of PlaySport Manager, Neil Innes, will be of great support to the continuation of PlaySport coaching and local sport participation. This initiative is about providing sustained levels of physical activity, as well as making sport fun.

Archery at Atlantis

Archery Coaches

Archery Coaching at Atlantis Leisure has just got better! Pictured right are: Abdul Kabir Hatim, Kyle Dods, John Bichard and Steve Walton who all hit the Target when last week they completed the (GNAS) level 2 Coaches qualification held in Inverclyde Sports Complex in Largs. This now entitles coaching to advanced level, furthering the success of the growing Friday night Archery sessions held at Atlantis Leisure, making it now one of the most qualified venues in Scotland for Archery Coaching.

Climbing at Atlantis

Neil Innes (Playsport Manager) has completed an indoor lead climbing qualification held at the Ice Factor in Kinlochleven.

This furthers more Atlantis's capability to offer advanced coaching to adults and children....

Did you know that we now offer a beginners and intermediate/advanced climbing club held on Mondays and Wednesdays after school? Book your child's space at reception, blocks are normally 8 weeks long and include fully qualified instruction and an away day out to the IceFactor at the end of the Block (extra cost payable).

Adults - we are looking to start up an adult session for complete beginners. If you think that you might be interested in learning the basics of climbing including rope work, climbing techniques, lead climbing, knots and more then please contact or Neil Innes on 01631 566 800.
