Halloween Party in Atlantis Leisure

Last Monday night, Oban FM held an amazing Halloween Party. Atlantis donated free use of the main hall and Soft Play. Over 250 kids turned up to take part in the best fancy dress competition, bounce on the bouncy castles, roll around in the Body Zorbes and have animal balloons made for them. The body zorbes were very popular and looked great fun but The Lost City Soft Play was the busiest of the night. Everyone was given a goodie bag to take away with them at the end of the night. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a fantastic night !

Oban Hockey Club

Oban Hockey Club is making a come back !

A group of hockey enthusiasts are encouraging others to come along to the training sessions at the Oban Community Pitch, next to Oban High School. It will take place on Thursday nights from 6-7pm. Derek Prestwell,a former county level coach and an instructor at Kilbowie Outdoor Education Centre has taken on the position of coach and is doing a fantastic job.

This is the first official hockey team in Oban. Back in 2005 a group of girls got together to train on the Atlantis pitch but this fizzled out due to lack of numbers. This time around we are trying to get a over 16's team together so even if you've never played hockey before, the high level of training from Derek will bring you up to speed in no time. Both males and famales are welcome no matter what your ability.

Argyll and Bute Scottish Schools Swimming Trials

On Thursday 10th November, 13 children from Park, Dunbeg, Rockfield, St Columbas and Oban High School travelled to Helensburgh to take part in the annual Argyll and Bute Scottish Schools Trails. This event is sponsored by Brodies Solicitors and Oban schools competed against schools from Dunoon, Helensburgh, Islay and Kintyre.

Although this was a Schools Championship, consideration times will be used for qualifications for the National School Finals to be held in East Kilbride in January.

A great day was had by all and most of our Oban swimmers came away with either medals, improved personal best times or in some cases both.

Lorn area primary schools St Andrews Scottish Dance

Last Thursday, 250 pupils from primary schools in the Lorn area gathered in Atlantis Leisure for a day of Scottish Country dancing to celebrate St Andrews Day. The P5 - P7 pupils, along with their teachers and High school helpers, represented Ardchattan, Barcaldine, Dalmally, Dunbeg, Easdale, Lismore, Lochnell, Luing, Park, St Columba's, Strath of Appin and Taynuilt schools.

Dance music was provided by local accordionist Michael Garvin, and teacher Sue Porter, with The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, gave the young dancers a reminder of their dance instructions.

12 senior pupils from Oban High School also assisted the dancing as part of a new initiative to enhance leadership skill.

This was the 5th year running for this fantastic event which seems to gets better every year.
